Delivers Cost-Effective All-in-One Computing to Education, Businesses and Consumers
By ZeroDesktop, Inc.
SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 17, 2012 -- /PRNewswire/ -- ZeroDesktop, Inc., a leading developer of next-generation personal Cloud Operating System and Cloud Service Brokerage solutions, today announced its collaboration with Marvell, a world leader in the development of storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, to integrate ZeroDesktop's personal Cloud OS infrastructure with Marvell's system-on-chip (SoC) technology. The combined solution in the innovative Android-based virtual web desktop device is cost-effective and an all-in-one solution for public and private cloud computing.
ZeroDesktop's Cloud Operating System provides access to thousands of users from a single server and eliminates the need to invest in multiple PCs, expensive maintenance and infrastructure costs. The Marvell virtual web desktop platform with ZeroDesktop's cloud content management technology is ideal for education, small businesses and consumers who want to regain control of their scattered digital content that has become widely dispersed across local computers, social sites, portable storage devices and external storage services, and an easy way to manage everything from one secure repository.
"Desktop PCs are continuing to shift to new form factors such as an all-in-one PC or a simple low-cost information hub station to manage multiple devices," said Young Song, CEO of ZeroDesktop. "This cloud all-in-one desktop platform represents a new trend of low-cost computing devices that can drive adoption of the large-screen desktop experience, especially in education and emerging countries. We're pleased to collaborate with Marvell for expanding the use of our cloud content management technology to offer a cost-effective virtual web desktop to a wider variety of people."
The ZeroDesktop Cloud OS solves the challenges typically faced by Android users such as a single-tasking user interface, inconsistent file and content management and the lack of secure device sharing among multiple users. ZeroDesktop Cloud OS provides an integrated "desktop" experience including multi-windows, multi-tasking, integrated cloud storage management and built-in support for local Android apps in a multi-user secure login environment.
This solution is ideal for use in education as well as in emerging countries where there is the greatest need for low-cost end-user computing devices, while multiple users can share a single device. The virtual web desktop solution represents an approximate 50 percent cost savings compared to low-cost desktop PCs with a monitor bundle such as a Chromebox, NetPC or refurbished PCs. Additionally, the virtual web desktop platform provides new opportunities for OEMs, telecoms and ISVs to provide a turnkey cloud service solution based on ZeroDesktop's Cloud OS infrastructure to their subscribers and end-users.
"We are excited to offer this new cloud all-in-one desktop platform to OEM monitor companies who see the value in producing a cost-effective cloud monitor for Telcos in emerging countries," said Richard Sah, Chief Product Officer, ZeroDesktop.
The ZeroDesktop Cloud Operating System is based on a next-generation Web-VDI user interface that delivers a familiar PC desktop user interface to make it easy for users to access and manage all of their content and applications. ZeroDesktop's Cloud Service Brokerage platform unifies digital content that resides in local storage, network drives and popular cloud services into one secure repository that is accessible by the Marvell virtual web desktop platform or by tablet computers and mobile devices.
Unlike thin-client or zero-client devices, ZeroDesktop's technology in the virtual web desktop platform does not require large expenditures in dedicated servers or expensive licensing costs related to operating systems, VDI or management software. The cloud operating system app runs on the client to seamlessly launch web-apps and local Android apps, and it connects to a datacenter Web-VDI server that sends content to a HTML-based virtual desktop.
